Obituary of Pride A. Cooper, Jr.

. Pride A. Cooper, Jr., 90, of Peabody, died Sunday evening at Emeritus at Cherry Hill Assisted Living Facility in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Lillian (Spence) Cooper with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Haddock, Georgia he was the son of the late Pride A. Cooper Sr., and Mattie Mae (Rocker) Cooper. He was raised and educated in Georgia and attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta for two years. He then entered the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Massachusetts in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Peabody where he lived in the same house he built for nearly 60 years. While living in Peabody, he worked for Eastman Gelatin as an electrician for 35 years before retiring in 1981. Pride was active in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Peabody and member of St. Paul’s Couples Club. After his retirement from Eastman Gelatin, Pride enjoyed golfing, gardening and woodworking and was a member of the “over the hill gang” from the Bally’s Health Club in Peabody who would meet once a month for lunch. Pride is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Bello of Richmond, VA and Barbara and Ken Amero of Peabody, a brother, Julian “Bud” Cooper of GA., a sister, Dorothy Holland of GA, two sisters-in-law, Virginia Spence of Peabody and Jewel Cooper of Florida, and by three grandchildren, Dayne Kaufman of VA, and Nicole and Jeremy Amero of Peabody. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews. His brothers Cecil, James, and Donald and his sisters Miriam and Ruth predeceased him. Following cremation, his Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A 1 hour visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 AM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
