Obituary of Samuel W. Parkinson

Samuel Wilson Parkinson, 86, of So. Peabody,died Thursday evening at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea after a lengthy illness with devastating Alheimer’ s Disease. He was born in Ballycastle, County Antrim, Ireland on February 27, 1919 the son of the late Samuel W. and Ellen (Mc Collam) Parkinson and with his parents came to America as a young boy and resided in Lynn until his marriage when he moved to Peabody to raise his family. In Lynn, he was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1938 and was an all-scholastic Shortstop on the Baseball Team and was the captain of the Basketball Team. He was a member of the Meadowlarks of Lynn, and had attended St. Stephen’ s Episcopal Church in Lynn for many years. He proudly served with the US Army during WW II serving 17 months overseas with the 277th Engineer Combat Batalion as a demolition specialist. He entered the apprentice program with General Electric Co. of Lynn working his way up to Planning Management with 48 years of service until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards with his friends and watching his 2 grandchildren grow. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be remembered for his quick-wit, charm and was always a true gentlemen. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel B. and Pamela Parkinson , two grandchildren, Ian Samuel and Colleen Nancy Parkinson all of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Dickinson and her son William Dickinson of Newton. He was the husband of the late Helen (Bodman) Parkinson and the father of the late Nancy Westgate. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody, facility. A Funeral Service will be held there on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roger B. Trask Adult Day Health Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
