Obituary of James J. Donlon
James J. Donlon, 83 of Peabody, died Friday evening at the Epoch Senior Center in Chestnut Hill following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Mary Louise (Noonan) Donlon.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late James and Mary (McCarrick) Donlon. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1944. After high school, James enlisted with the United States Navy and served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946.
After the war he attended Bryant and Stratton Business School for two years. He then worked in the leather business as a factory foreman for Drutan Products in Haverhill before retiring in 1984.
James was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council #508 and the Ancient Order of Hibernia Division 11, both in Peabody. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry along with working in his yard.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Jon Rudzinski of Roslindale and Mary and Michael Phelan of Essex, a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Terrance McLaughlin of Peabody and is also survived by five grandchildren, Isabel and Nickodem Rudzinski and Michael Jr., James and Sean Phelan. He was the brother of the late Margaret Donlon.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl 17, Chicago, IL, 60601-7633
