Obituary of Christine P. (Georgelas) Skrekas

Christine P. (Georgelas) Skrekas, 80, beloved wife of the late Arthur James Skrekas, died on Thursday afternoon at the Beverly Hospital following a long illness. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Peter Georgeleas and Theohari Georgelas. She lived in Salem in her youth and graduated from Salem High School. She moved to Dracut shortly after being married and lived there for over 60 years, only recently moving back to the north shore. Mrs. Skrekas worked with her husband in the bakery they owned, White Baking Company, on Market St. in Lowell. Her specialty was wedding cakes, and many enjoyed the other creations and pies she baked. She also worked many years as a Bank Teller with Union National Bank in Lowell. Christine, known as “Chris”, most enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her sisters, of which she was one of seven. All enjoyed her quick wit and sense of humor. She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Judy & Richard Zambroski of Amherst, NH; three grandchildren, Brandon, Krysta, and Kaitlyn Zambroski; four sisters, Georgia Theophilipoulos of Salem, MA, Carol Katsarakes of Lexington, Margaret Skaliotis of Salem, MA, and Sophia Georgelas of Holiday, FL; sisters-in-law, Frances Kane of Dracut, Helen Barlow of Ohio, and brother-in-law George Skrekas of Lowell as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her parents and husband, by her sisters Stella Martin and Julie Grant and brother James Georgelas. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 until 5 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday at 9:00 AM in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 AM in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. Burial will be held with a Graveside Committal on Tuesday at 11:30 AM in Gibson Cemetery, Pelham, NH.
