Obituary of Christina M. (Sarno) Sawyer

Christina M. (Sarno) Sawyer PEABODY—Christina M. (Sarno) Sawyer, 93, wife of the late Harold Sawyer, died Monday November 23, 2009 at the Hunt Retirement & Skilled Nursing Center in Danvers. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Raphael and Mary (Capriola) Sarno. She grew up in Malden, and graduated from Malden High School, Class of 1932. She lived in Peabody for 58 years, and only recently moved to Danvers. Mrs. Sawyer worked as a cook for St. John’s Church Rectory in Peabody, and was a Nurse’s Aide at Pilgrim Nursing Home for many years. She volunteered for several organizations, including the Council on Aging in Peabody and the J.B. Thomas Hospital Gift Shop in Peabody. Her family will dearly miss her, and were grateful to live with five generations. She is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Roberta Sawyer of Strafford, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol & Joseph Robair of Peabody; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Sarno of Somerville and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by brothers John, Emilio, Joseph and Americo and sisters Susan Caruso, Mary Whittaker and Margaret Dunn. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Saturday at 10 AM in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
