Obituary of Gerald W. White

Gerald W. White, 85, of Peabody and formerly of Jamaica Plain, died Friday morning at the Rosewood Nursing in Peabody following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Beatrice (Urbano) White. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Albert and Harriett (Walters) White. He was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain and a graduate of Mechanics High School. He later lived in Malden and has lived in Peabody for over 40 years. Gerald was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy aboard the USS Ingersoll which was in the harbor during the Peace Treaty Signing with Japan. After the war, Gerald worked many years as a draftsman for the Hewlitt-Packard Company in Waltham before retiring years ago. Gerald was a member and past Quartermaster of the Veteran’s of Foreign War, Post 1011 in Peabody, and Past Master at the Masonic Temple Lodge in Cambridge. He also liked collecting Railroad Model Trains and was a philatelist, a stamp collector. Gerald is survived by a sister, Bernice Elizabeth Kerr of Mechanicsville, VA and by a sister-in-law, Priscilla White of East Wakefield, NH and by several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James White. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
