Obituary of Jose Gomes Silva, Jr.

Jose Gomes Silva Jr., 84, of Peabody, husband of the late Alice M. (Trindade) Silva, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Beverly. Mr. Silva was born July 20, 1925, in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, son of the late Jose Gomes Silva Sr. and Conceicao (Fereira) Silva. He was raised and educated in Fugueira da Foz Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1954 making his home in Peabody. Mr. Silva was employed for 20 years as a leather worker in Peabody and was later employed as a floor worker at GTE Sylvania until his retirement in 1988. He dedicated his entire life to his family and later was so proud of his grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a member of the Club Luis de Camoes in Peabody and an avid soccer fan and sports enthusiast. Mr. Silva enjoyed traveling and was well read in current local and world affairs. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Maria “Gina” and Carlos Machado of Port St. Lucie Fl, Joe M. and Barbara Silva of Seabrook NH, Teresa and Helder Costarita of Peabody; his grandchildren, Carlos and Stefanie Machado, Julie Machado, Angela Costarita, Gina Provencher and John Nunes; 2 great grandchildren, Justin Provencher and Jenna Provencher; a son-in-law, John Nunes of Peabody, and the caring staff at Essex Park. His loving daughter Alice Nunes predeceased him. His funeral service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. The family will receive family and friends on Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
