Obituary of Rosanna "Rose" (Mulligan) Hodgdon
Rosanna “Rose” (Higgins) (Mulligan) Hodgdon, 98, of Peabody, died Monday evening at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Charles Hodgdon and the late Patrick Mulligan.
Born in Battlefield, Ballymoat, Sligo, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Henry) Higgins. She lived in Ireland until she was 17 years old and then immigrated to the United States and settled in Peabody.
Prior to her marriage to Patrick Mulligan, Rosanna worked as a nanny and upon her marriage, she was dedicated to family. She was a long time member of St. Ann’s Sodality Club in Peabody. During her husband’s Charles retirement, she wintered in Kissimmee, Florida and summered in East Wakefield, NH for 20 years before returning to the Peabody area. She loved to travel, but most of all she loved spending time with family.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John P. and Carol Mulligan of Littleton, CO, Hugh F. and Katherine Mulligan of Marblehead, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Anthony Bettencourt of East Wakefield, NH, a sister, Mae Hannon of Ireland, and she is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paddy, James and John Higgins and by her loving great grandson Corey Bettencourt.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
