Obituary of Donald W Luis, Sr

Donald W. Luis, Sr., of Peabody, died early Monday morning at Salem Hospital. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Joseph Alves Luis and Palmira Silva Maga. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and attended Sacred Heart School in Lynn. He was a chef who apprenticed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and went on to work at Romies Restaurant and as chef at the Wardhurst in Peabody as well as Thomas Lords in California. He also owned and operated several local establishments. He was an avid Peabody High School football fan and a member of the Tanners Football Boosters. He leaves behind two daughters, Michelle Luis and Tina Pelletier and her husband James Freitas, all of Peabody; three sons, Donald W. Luis, Jr., Mark and Joshua Luis, all of Peabody; five grandchildren, Danielle and Shane Pelletier, Nicole Luis-Denisco, and Dawn and Evangelos Luis; all of Peabody, three step grandchildren, Joseph, Jeffrey and Jeremy Freitas, all of Peabody, and also leaves a brother Joseph Luis of Wakefield, NH and a niece and nephew. A memorial gathering will take place on Thursday from 5 until 7 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Joshua Luis Education Fund, C/O of Luso American, 37 Tremont St., Peabody, Ma 01960.
