Obituary of M.E. Bessie (Cranney) Coughlin

. M.E. Bessie Coughlin, 91, of Peabody, died Wednesday morning at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William P. Coughlin. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Dullea) Cranney. She was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1936. Upon the marriage to her husband William Dinny, Bessie dedicated her life to raising and nurturing her children and later grandchildren. She was very active at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She also was an avid bingo player and was a dedicated fan of both the Boston Red Sox and Bruins. Bessie is survived by two sons Joseph and Sherie Coughlin of Salem and Deputy Fire Chief James and his wife Anna Coughlin of Peabody; her five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Kevin, Shanda, and Jason Coughlin, two great grandchildren, Patrick and Caitlyn Coughlin, her daughter she never had, Susan L'italien of North Carolina, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and her extended neighborhood family. She was the sister of the late Milton and Cyril Cranney. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be sen in her name to either the Golden Agers of Peabody of the Carmilite Chapel at the North Shore Shopping Center, Peabody
