Eleanor (Drivas) Kalavretinos
Eleanor (Drivas) Kalavretinos, 84, of Peabody, died peacefully Wednesday at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehab. Center in Peabody after a long illness. She had been the devoted wife of 45 years to the late John Kalavretinos and the mother of the late Angelina Ward.
A lifelong resident of Peabody, Eleanor was born on August 14, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Irene (Lazarakis) Drivas and was a 1942 graduate of Peabody High School.
She was first employed as a telephone operator at the New England Tel. & Tel. Company in the Danvers office. She later was a sales person at Zayre Department Store in Beverly for thirty years prior to her retirement.
Eleanor enjoyed babysitting, movie going, journal writing, listening to music, and dancing to the beat, especially country music and Elvis Presley. Her deep religious faith and love of prayer was an important part of her life. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church. Her life was enriched and she enriched the lives of many with her kind and gentle ways. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
She was the loving mother of Irene Graglia and her husband John of Methuen, and Katherine Hart of Peabody. She is also survived by a son-in-law, John Ward of Peabody, a sister, Celia Nalesnik of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Mary Drivas of Andover, her cherished grandchildren, Christopher Ward and his wife Aimee, Joanne Craig and her husband Edgar, Amanda Hart, Valerie Hart and John J. Graglia, a godchild, Mark Nalesnik, a brother-in-law, Peter Hasomeris of Avon, a son-in-law, William Hart, and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Hasomeris, and the sister-in-law of the late Peter Kallas and Bertha Kallas, Helen Jais, Julia Manolakis and Henry Nalesnik.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at 82 Lynn St., Peabody from 2:00 until 6:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roger B. Trask Adult Day Care Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 or to St. Vasilios Memorial Fund, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody, MA 01960 in her memory.
