Daniel R. Cullen, Sr.
PEABODY—Daniel R. Cullen, Sr., beloved husband of the late Mary (Martinello) Cullen, died unexpectedly on Wednesday evening at the Lahey Medical Center in Peabody. He lived in Everett for many years, and lived in Peabody for over 35 years. He was recently a resident at Brooksby Village.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Bertha (LeVigne) Cullen. He grew up in Chelsea, and attended schools there.
Mr. Cullen went into the United States Navy during World War II.
Upon returning to Chelsea after the war, he was employed with General Electric. He later went to Boston Gas and was a Service Technician in 1956 until his retirement in 1992. He also operated his own Oil Burner Service business in the 1960’s.
Dan was a cherished father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by: three sons, Daniel Cullen of Melrose, Michael Cullen of Peabody, and Patrick Cullen of Haverhill; three daughters, Kathleen Merchant and Susan Rankin, both of Peabody, and Diane Chigas of Kensington, NH; 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Mac Donald of Chelsea, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents and wife, by a son Thomas Cullen and a brother Robert Cullen.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday morning at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
