Obituary of George Anthony Sparkas

George Anthony Sparkas, 78, of Peabody, died Friday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Marlene (Deibler) Sparkas. George was born in Lynn on January 27, 1931 and was the son of late Elaine (Vousbokous) Sparkas and Anthony Apostolos, and his step father, John Sparkas. He has lived in Peabody for over 60 years. George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a retiree of the United States Air Force, and then worked an additional 25 plus years as a mechanic at Mike’s Exxon Station on Bridge Street in Salem before finally retiring. George will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him, including his sons Randall and his wife Todi Sparkas of Danvers, Kevin and his wife Cynthia Sparkas of Lynnfield, and by his daughter, Leslie Sparkas of Peabody, his brother, Michael Apostolos of Florida and his sister, Mary MacDonald of Salem, and he is also survived by his six grandchildren, Jami and her husband, Brad Norman of Henderson, NV, Brittany and Taylor Sparkas of Danvers, and Meghan, Alexander, and Zachary Sparkas of Lynnfield, and his two great grandchildren, Tyler and Hailey Norman. Besides his mother, father and step father, George was predeceased by his devoted son Jeffery Sparkas. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. A family service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home, followed by burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the MGH/ North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to a local food bank, which would be greatly appreciated by the family.
