Obituary of Douglas W. Richardson

Douglas W. Richardson, 85 of Peabody and Naples, Florida, died peacefully at the Avow Hospice House in Naples, Florida on December 30, 2009. He was the husband of Margaret Ann (English) Richardson. He was born in East Boston on May 23, 1924, the son of the late Charles N. and Hazel (Hawes) Richardson. He attended the Boston School of Mechanical Arts, Northeastern University, and MIT. He received his Registration of Architecture for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from the Boston Architectural Center. He was first employed as an architect with Cabot, Cabot and Forbes Company and later worked at the Charles T. Main Engineers in Boston for 30 years prior to his retirement. Douglas was a distinguished veteran of WW II serving in the Asiatic and Pacific theatre campaigns. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Foxfire Country Club in Naples. Besides his wife, Margaret, he leaves four sons, Douglas P. & his wife Carolyn Richardson of Beverly, MA, David V. & his wife Susan Richardson of Jekyll Island, GA, Brian J. & his wife Debra Richardson of Danvers and Stephen P. Richardson of Georgetown, his cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Lauren and Kerry Richardson all of Beverly and Zachary and Avery Richardson both of Danvers, his siblings, Gerald H. Richardson of Greenville, SC, Eileen Demont of Somerville, MA, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Hazel Granara and Gloria J. Breau. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. A family burial will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Florida 34105.
