Obituary of Dolores C. "Dolly" (Hopkins) Angell
Dolores Claire “Dolly” (Hopkins) Angell, 81, of South Peabody, died just three hours into the New Year on January 1, 2010 at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of Walter Angell Jr.
She was born in Lynn, MA on December 22,1928, the daughter of the late Thomas C and Elsie (Spencer) Hopkins and was raised in Lynn had resided in Nahant before moving to Peabody 62 years ago. In the mid sixties, she and her husband became interested in drum and bugle corps, watching the Peabody Musketeers, and this interest had them traveling throughout New England and New York attending the competitions of the drum and bugle corps.
She later worked in the cafeteria department of the Peabody Public School system for 10 years.
Once retired, she had time to devote to her flowers, her home and to her family which was her top priority in her life. She enjoyed watching her children develop into their different phases of life and seeing them achieve in their endeavors. Dolly was a gifted seamstress and crafter and some of her works, especially her flags can still be seen adorning the fronts of several homes on the North Shore and at the Brooksby Barn in Peabody.
In her later years, Dolly enjoyed trips along the coast of New Hampshire and Newburyport sitting on the dock watching boats and people come and go. In her sickness, her family was there every day for the past three years attending to her needs and extending to her the love that she had bestowed on them throughout their lives.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Butch” and Patricia Girard of Port Charlotte, FL., her daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Walter Burke and Susan D. Angell all of Peabody, her cherished grandchildren, Trisha and her husband Kevin MacGregor, Cathy and her husband Shawn Cahill, Greg Girard and Maureen Burke, her great grandchildren, Candice,Tyler and Brady MacGregor and Ruby Cahill.
A Family Funeral Service was held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home in Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472 in her memory.
