Obituary of James D. McNamara Jr.

James D. Mc Namara, 84, of Danvers, died peacefully Friday at the NSMC – Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Judith (Romano) Mc Namara and the late Irene (Pydynkowsky) Mc Namara. He was born on January 18, 1925, the son of the late James D. and Mabel (Copeland) Mc Namara and was raised in Lynnfield. He attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of the Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston. Jim was the proprietor of the Mc Namara’s Liquor Store in Peabody Square for thirty-eight years taking over from his father in 1953 until his retirement in 1991. He had been an avid bowler sponsoring a team in the Peabody Chamber of Commerce bowling league at the Metro Bowl, Peabody for many years. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War 11 and was drafted and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He loved playing golf and had been a member of the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead for over 40 years. He also wintered in Holiday, Florida for many years where he played golf at the Crescent Oaks Country Club in Tarpon Springs, Fl. Jim had served as a corporator for many years with the former Warren Five Cent Savings Bank of Peabody. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Maureen Mc Namara of Andover, two grandchildren, Gloria and Angela Mc Namara of Andover, a sister, Nathalie Fraser of Lynnfield, MA, his step-children, Karen Woods of Auburn, NH, Susan Sullivan and her husband John andCharles Woods all of Chelmsford, MA and Ann Page of Danville, CA, his step-grandchildren, Shane and Ryan Sullivan and Michael Woods all of Chelmsford, Oliver, Emma, Cooper and Abigail Page and Myles Jones all of Danville, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marilyn Lucie, Eleanor Willard, Robert Mc Namara and Maxine O’Shea. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
