Obituary of Patricia Ann (Brian) McCarthy

Patricia Ann (Brian) “Pat” McCarthy, 69, of West Peabody, died suddenly early Saturday morning at her residence. She was the devoted wife of Arthur E. McCarthy with whom she shared 49 years of marriage. Pat was born in Boston, Ma on February 13, 1940, the daughter of Agnes (White) Brian and the late James M. Brian. She was raised in Milton, Ma for 11 years before moving to West Hartford, CT. She was a graduate of Hall High School in West Hartford in 1957 and received a degree in elementary education from Wheelock College in Boston in 1961. She used her education in raising her family of four and also helped in monitoring the libraries in the Peabody School systems. Pat and her husband were avid golfers and members of the Salem Country Club for over 40 years. She had played for many years on the interclub league and in state golf tournaments. Pat was also a member at the Mid Ocean Golf Club in Bermuda and at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Jupiter, Florida. Pat especially enjoyed her years in Bermuda, having visited over 70 times since 1965 with extended family and friends, including many Bermudians. Pat was known as a kind and gentle person, very sensitive to others and always ready to be there when needed. As President of her family’s charitable foundation, many institutions and individuals, particularly in Peabody, have benefited from her generosity. She also enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She was very fond of her ten grandchildren and helped them in their educational endeavors. Surviving her besides her husband Arthur of Peabody are her mother, Agnes Brian of West Hartford, CT., her three sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur T. and Denise McCarthy of Reading, Brian E. and Tia McCarthy of Lynnfield and John M. and Kelley McCarthy of West Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Donna M. and Michael Rogers of Middleton, her two brothers, James M. Brian Jr. of Boston and Robert A. Brian of West Hartford, CT, her cherished ten grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Kathryn McCarthy of Reading, Molly, Patrick and Drew McCarthy of Lynnfield, Megan and Conor McCarthy of Peabody and Caroline and Aidan Rogers of Middleton , a sister-in-law, Janice McCarthy of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Gerard Brian. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell St., West Peabody at 12 Noon.
