Obituary of Martin Francis O'Gara
Martin Francis O’ Gara, Jr., 76 years, of Danvers, died Saturday morning at the Hunt Nursing and Retirement Home in Danvers. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Harte) O’ Gara.
Mr. O’ Gara was born Dec. 3, 1925 in Pittsfield, MA son of the late Martin F. and Catherine (Dwyer) O’ Gara. He was raised and educated in Dalton graduating form Dalton High School class of 1943. During his senior year he was a member of the Dalton High School Baseball team which went on to play for the State Championship against Norwood High School at Fenway Park.
During WWII, he served as a Radarman 3rd class in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Harry E. Hubbard and saw battle in the American and Asiatic Pacific areas. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war he attended Secton Hall in NJ and Siena College in Loudenville, NY receiving his business degree in 1950.
After completing his education he was employed as a Special Agent for the F.B.I. from 1950 to 1955. He then went on to work for the Ford Motor Co. in Natick and Detroit followed by the Chrysler Corp. in Natick and Dallas, TX. Prior to his retirement in 1980 he had been employed as a salesman for the Deluxe Systems in Avon, MA. From 1975 until 1985 he was also one of the eight former F.B.I. agents who were the personal bodyguards for the sons of King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan, Abdullah now King of Jordan and his younger brother Faisal while they were attending Eagle Brook grammar school and Deerfield Academy.
He enjoyed golfing and tennis.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, Michael J. and Ann O’ Gara of Danvers and William M. and Jennifer O’ Gara of Annapolis, MD; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth M. O’ Gara of Los Angeles, CA and Kathleen A. Katie and Donald DiMonda of Camillus, NY; a brother, John Jack O’ Gara of Lakeworth, FL; two sisters, Katherine Kay O’ Gara of Dalton and Mary Pelt of Ocala, FL; two grandchildren, Michael J. O’ Gara, Jr. and Megan A. O’ Gara both of Danvers. He was also the brother of the late James O’ Gara and Jane Perry.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Cahill-Brodeur facility at 20 Church St., Peabody 978-531-0472 of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Richard Church, Danvers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers.
