Obituary of Ruth H. (Bishop) Reardon

Ruth H. (Bishop) Reardon died peacefully Friday afternoon at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody where she had resided since August of 2004. Born in Lowell on January 30, 1910, she was the oldest daughter of the late Sadie (Winkley) and Fred Bishop. Her younger sister, Elizabeth died in 1965. Ruth had lived in Peabody for sixty-seven years, most recently at the Fairweather apartments on Central St, and prior to that, for many happy years on Putnam Street. She was a teller at the Merchants Warren National Bank on Main St, Peabody Square for thirty years, retiring in 1978. Ruth was a creative person who loved to knit, crochet, make dolls, and sew. She was an avid reader and enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She was a seasoned traveler and especially loved her trips on the Queen Elizabeth II. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, John J. Reardon, Sr., and her son John J. Jack Reardon, Jr. She was a devoted grandmother to her grandchildren, Patricia A. Reardon of Peabody and Sean P. Reardon of Brighton. She was a Compassionate woman with a generous spirit and positive attitude, who was happiest in the company of her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Nancy M. Reardon-Blanaru, and a brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph P. Reardon, both of Peabody. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Eleanor Remington of Marblehead and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
