Obituary of Shane M. Rigney

Shane M. Rigney, 31, of Beverly and formerly of Salem and Peabody, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at Beverly Hospital. Born in Salem, he was the son of Elizabeth (Hart) Rigney of Danvers, and Myles Rigney of Fitzwilliam, NH. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody Veteran’s Memorial High School, class of 1996. He continued his education at Salem State College and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in 2001 and in 2007 he received his Masters Degree from Salem State College. Shane taught computer science at the middle school level in Peabody and Lynn and for the last 2 years he has taught at the Winthrop Middle School. Shane loved being around kids and was involved with several after school programs on the North Shore. Shane also enjoyed coaching and refereeing flag football and has been involved with the North Shore Flag Football league for the past 5 years. Besides his loving mother and father, Shane is survived his sister, Bethany Rigney and her husband Ed Guillen and their son, Caden, all of Port St. Lucia, Fla., his beloved girlfriend, Jennifer Mirra of Beverly, his step brother, Ryan Rigney of Rochester, NH, his grandmother, Janice Rigney of Gloucester, his aunts and uncles, John Hart, Cynthia Herlihy, Judy Freehand, Tim Hart, and Kathryn Conway, his great aunt, New Hampshire State Representative Mary Griffin. Shane’s Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Following cremation on Wednesday, a graveside will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM at the family lot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shane’s name to the Winthrop Middle School, 151 Pauline St., Winthrop, MA 02152.
