Obituary of Mildred (Lewandowski) Grusheski
Mildred (Lewandowski) Grusheski, 84, of Peabody, died Monday at the
Hunt Retirement and Nursing Center, Danvers after a prolonged illness. She was the wife of Walter H. Grusheski with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
She was born in Salem, Ma., the daughter of the late Ladislau and Zofia (Tokarska)
Lewandowski and was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Grammar and High School in
Salem. She had resided in Peabody for the past 55 years.
She was first employed at the Benson Shoe Co. of Salem for 15 years and later with
The Hughes, Liberty, Mica Company of Peabody for 12 years prior to her retirement.
She was very active in the Polish community of Peabody, serving as secretary of the United Polish Organization of Peabody. She also served as vice president and president of the Rosary Society and the Ladies Guild of the former St. Joseph’ s Church, Peabody.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxilliary of the P.L.A.V. Post 63 of Peabody and sang
In the St. Cecilia Choir at St. Joseph’ s Church. She enjoyed sharing with her husband and family time at their summer home in Hampton, N.H. She was a member of the Mass. Federation of Women and loved to crochet, Knit and travel.
Surviving her besides her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Roberta Grusheski of Hilltown, Pa., a daughter and son-in-law, Judith E. and William Emmett of Groveland, Ma.; a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Dorothy Lewandowski of Peabody, two sisters, Alice Ladyszewski of Salem and Stephany Sylvain of Beverly,4 grandchildren, Randall Emmett of Salem, Steven Emmett of Coral
Springs Fl., Sharon Teague of Peabody and Robert Grusheski of Hilltown, Pa.,3 great
Grandchilden, Danielle and Jessica Emmett and Cana Sofia Teague and many nieces and
Nephews. She was the sister of the late Stacia Benjamin, Stanley Lewandowski and Victoria Helen Berkeley and the grandmother of the late Colin D. Grusheski.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday
At 8:00 a.m. from the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line at 9:00 A.M. Visiting hours on Thursday from 3:00 - 7:00 P.M. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
