Obituary of Maria M. (Cardozo da Costa) Nunes

. Maria M. Nunes, 81, of Peabody, died early Saturday morning at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Francisco Nunes. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Francisca (de Jesus) Cardozo da Costa. She was raised in Portugal before immigrating to the United States in 1973, where upon she settled with her family in Peabody where she has lived for the past 37 years. While living in Peabody, she worked as a machine operator for Blyer Industries in Wakefield and was a member of the Mass Paper Workers Union for over 20 years before retiring. Family was very important to Maria and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her including her sons, Francisco Nunes of Peabody and Jose Nunes of Florida, her daughter, Maria Bettencourt of Peabody, her three brothers, Manual J. da Costa and Francisco J. da Costa, both of Portugal, and Joao Lima da Costa of Canada, a sister, Francisca do Coracao de Jesus of Peabody, and is also survived by her five loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren and by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem
