Joachim “Kim” J. Apostolides
PEABODY—Joachim J. “Kim” Apostolides of Peabody, died peacefully on Saturday Feb. 6, 2010, with his family by his side, at the Devereux Nursing Home in Marblehead. He was the husband of the late Katherine “Kitty” (Koutsos) Apostolides.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Ourania (Venios) Apostolides, he was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School.
He worked for New England Telephone Company for 38 years in many capacities and retired in 1984 as a Central Office Equipment Engineering Manager.
He was a veteran of World War II, with service in the United States Navy.
Kim was a lifelong member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. He also believed in community service, as he was a member of the Jordan Lodge of the Masons for over 50 years, and served as Worshipful Master in 1967. He also served the Grand Lodge of Masons as District Deputy Grand Marshall and District Deputy Grand Secretary. He also was a member of the Aleppo Temple of Shriners, and the Scottish Rite Body of Salem. As an avid boater, he was a lifelong member of the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly. He built his first small outboard boat and progressed to his final 43 foot Trawler the “Kay Kay III” which he used to fulfill his retirement dream when he and his wife Kitty took it to Florida and back through the intercoastal waterway in 1985. He was a master woodworker, and he enjoyed playing cribbage. He also was a frequent Life Donor and supporter of the American Red Cross.
He is survived by: his two sons John & his wife Paulette Apostolides of Pittsburgh, PA and Stephen & his wife Dorothy of Peabody; a daughter Laurie Grant of Peabody; he was blessed with eight grandchildren, Stephen Jr., Katie, Nicholas, Garrett, John Kyle, Katherine, David and Alex; a twin sister, Anna Varinos of Beverly, several nieces and nephews, and also survived by a dear friend Dahria Dylingowski of Danvers. He was preceded in death by his brothers John “Marco”, Farnis, James, and Paul Apostolides.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 12 Noon, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Childrens Transportation Fund, 99 Fordham Rd., Wilmington, MA .
