Dear Ann and Family,
I just realized after reading the obituary that Tommy was your son. I was so sorry to learn about his death and the circumstances. What a brave young man he was. Please know that you are in my prayers as you go through this most difficult time. May peace be with you all. Sincerely, Beverly Villemaire

God looked around his garden And He found an empty place. And then He looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain, He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids, And whispered"Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you . But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.

Even though I played for the Essex girl's basketball team and never actually spoke to Tommy, being a part of the Chittenden County basketball community meant you knew who Tommy Howe was! His courage, determination and perseverance was truly amazing. He will forever be a role model to all past, present and future VT basketball players. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

We were very saddened to hear the awful news. My son, Scott, was very fond of Tommy, a childhood friend whom he reconnected with at a local health club where they would see each other occasionally when training for college sports. He would come home after a workout and tell me he had run into Tommy and what a great guy he was. I will never forget the shock we both had after running into him at a local store just after his amputation. It was just so absolutely unfair and incomprehesible that this could happen to him. I will forever remember the warmth of his hug and the way I felt he was comforting me in that moment. Tommy will always be remembered in the hearts of people who watched his amazing skills on the court in Colchester. His talent was obvious even in grade school. Later, his ability to convert the terrible cards he was dealt into optimism and a smile were equally impressive. I wish you all the strength he had and hope that you will somehow be able to channel the best memories and the best qualities he possessed to help you through this painful time.
Love,
Nadia (and Gary and Scott too)

I'm a teacher at Colchester High School and while I didn't have Tommy in class, I did have his sister Katie and his fiance, Kaitlyn. I can remember so clearly Tommy waiting for Kaitlyn outside my classroom every day. He was devoted to her even then...something you just don't see very often in a teenage boy. He was truly one of the best.

My heart goes out to those who loved him.

I'm a former teacher and softball coach at Colchester High School who was a faithful supporter of the Laker sports teams. My son, Evan, played basketball at Essex during the same time that Tommy was playing. I remember being released from the hospital after having a surgical procedure done just in time to watch the state championship game. I shall always remember Tommy every time I step in the gym and look up at the green and blue banners hanging. What an amazing and courageous young man. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole community who clearly loved him.
