Obituary of Mary A. Sweeney

Mary A. Sweeney PEABODY—Mary A. Sweeney, a lifelong resident of Peabody, died Friday morning at her home following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. & Mary Ellen (Brown) Sweeney. She graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1929, and Salem Teachers College, Class of 1932. She then attended Boston State College and Merrimack College for her masters degree in education. Miss Sweeney’s last assignment was Director of Pupil Personnel when she retired from the City of Peabody School system in 1982. She was a member of the Mass. Association of Retired Teachers, the Essex County Association of Retired Teachers, Mass. Association of School Psychologists, and the National Association of School Psychologists. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, including Michael & his wife Marcia Crowley of Lowell, Joan Hatzirallis of Bristol, CT, Richard & his wife Cheryl Crowley of Marlboro, Michele Hatzirallis of CA, John and Christopher Hatzirallis, both of CT, Stephen Hatzirallis of CA, and Sarah Savo of CT. She is also survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother John J. Sweeney and a sister Eleanor Crowley. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
