Obituary of Richard D. Baker

Richard D. Baker PEABODY—Richard D. Baker, 82, husband of the late Marjorie (Hicks) Baker, died Thursday at the North Shore Medical Center—Union Hospital in Lynn following a brief illness. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Murphy) (Olander) Baker. He lived in Lynn in his youth and graduated from Lynn Classical High School. Mr. Baker served a patriotic duty with service in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, and was stationed in Florida. He worked as a Machinist in the Jet Engine Department with General Electric in Lynn for 47 years. He retired 18 years ago. Richard was a gifted and handy craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, cabinet-making for his home and some of his family’s homes. He was an outdoorsman who loved skiing and fishing, and was a member of a ski club in Lincoln, NH. He is survived by: two sons, Richard Baker and Stephen Baker, both of Peabody; a brother William A. Baker of Newton, NH; a sister Marion C. Potter of Saugus, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his parents, by his wife Marjorie with whom he enjoyed 48 years of marriage before she died in August 2001. Also, he was brother of the late Helen Williams and June E. LeBlanc. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a visitation on Sunday Feb 21, 2010 from 2 – 4 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St.location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service on Sunday at 4 PM in the funeral home. A Graveside Committal will be held on Monday Feb. 22, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
