James E. Mitchell
BOXFORD James E. Mitchell, 75, beloved husband of Kathleen (MacPherson) Mitchell, died unexpectedly at the Beverly Hospital on Monday evening.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late James E. and Mary Dorothy (Hackett) Mitchell. He lived in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood for many years. He graduated from Boston College High School, and from Boston College. He then graduated from New England School of Law. He lived in Norwood for several years, then in New Britain, CT for several years, and lived in Boxford for the last 32 years.
Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, with service in the United States Air Force.
He worked in Banking most of his life. He was Senior Vice-President in the Trust Dept. at the former Essex Bank, Peabody branch which merged with Bank of New England and ultimately Fleet Bank just as he retired.
Mr. Mitchell was quite active in community and civic affairs. He lived as a gentleman dedicated to serving the community as well as enjoying family and friends. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus when living in CT, then the Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) in Norwood, Past President of Boxford-Topsfield Rotary, active in the Lions Club in New Britain, CT, served on the Masconomet Regional School Committee in the early 1980’ s, active in several political campaigns. He enjoyed history and world events, was an avid reader and golf.
He is survived by: his wife, Kathleen (MacPherson) Mitchell of Boxford, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage; two sons, James E. Chip Mitchell, Jr. of Danvers and Keith Mitchell of North Andover; three daughters, Mary Delay of Topsfield, Kimberly Mitchell of Ocala, FL, and Pamela Barker of Newburyport; 10 grandchildren, and a dear cousin who lived as his sister, Phyllis Murphy of Jamaica Plain. He was preceded in death by an infant son, John Mitchell
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to the funeral, which will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Mary’ s Church in Georgetown.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 P.M.
Burial will be in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
