Obituary of Nancy E. (Egner) Holuk
Nancy E. (Egner) Holuk, 77, of Peabody was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 18, 2010 with her family at her side.
Nancy was born on April 14, 1932, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Rev. John Egner and Patience (Love) Egner. She was raised in New York and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1949 in Delancy, NY. She pursued her education at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston becoming a registered nurse in 1953. Prior to moving to Peabody following her marriage in 1960, Nancy resided in New York, Vermont and Boston.
Nancy was employed as a registered nurse at the New England Baptist Hospital and was later employed as an R.N. at Dr. Medlinsky’s practice in Swampscott until her retirement in the early 1980’s. Nancy was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Peabody. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School to the 4 & 5-year-old children for many years and also taught weekly bible studies. For 23 years, she was Missions Chairman at the Church. She was a founding and active member of the North Shore Christian Women’s Club from 1965 until present. Nancy was also a member of the Peabody Benevolence Society and the R.U.E.B.U. woman’s division and recording secretary for the Slavic Missionary Service. Nancy traveled extensively in the U.S. with her family visiting 49 states with the exception of Oregon. She also traveled in many countries in Europe. Nancy will always be well remembered by her family and friends for her loving smile, hospitality, kindness, hugs and her famous saying “Bless your Heart”.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 49 years, David Holuk of Peabody; her daughters, Susan Holuk and Sharon Holuk both of Saugus; her siblings, David Egner of VT, and Constance and Richard Davis of CT; her brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. Victor Scalise of Brookline, many nieces and nephews. Her sister Mary Scalise predeceased her.
Her nephew, the Rev. Douglas Scalise will officiate at her funeral service on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the West Congregational Church, 27 Johnson Street, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers her family requested that memorial contributions be made to the Nancy E. Holuk Memorial Fund for Missions. Please make checks payable to the Calvary Baptist Church, 4 Coolidge Rd., Peabody, MA 01960.
