Obituary of Michael M. Sorokoff

Michael M. Sorokoff, 90, of Lynn, died early Wednesday morning at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Nancy (Psarros) Sorokoff with whom he shared over 66 years of marriage. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Michael and Serfima (Uskivich) Sorokoff. He was raised and educated in Boston and was a graduate of Boston Latin High School. After high school, Michael enlisted with the United States Army and served his country honorably during World War II while stationed at Guadalcanal and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in June of 1945. He has spent the last 50 years living in Lynn. After the war, Michael worked at the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn as a Jet Engineer Tester for over 35 years before retiring. Michael was a family man who cherished being with his family and later with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Michael will be dearly missed by his two loving daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and George Janakas and Georgia and Vincent Mason, all of Peabody, his three grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband George Glynos of Danvers, Andrea Janakas and her partner Annie of Los Angeles, CA., and Nicholas Mason and his fiancé Laura of Brooklyn, NY, his two great children, Alexcea and Evan Glynos, and by several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. At the request of the family, there are no visiting hours. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Soldiers Home, Attn: Quigley Memorial Recreational Dept, 91 Crest Ave, Chelsea, MA 02150.
