Obituary of Geraldine R. (McGrath) Hynes

Geraldine R. (McGrath) Hynes, 89, of Peabody, died early Monday morning at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Francis J. Hynes. Born in St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Sarah (Burrell) McGrath. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1938. She has lived in Peabody for the past 59 years. Geraldine worked as a nurse’s aid at the former Danvers State Hospital and Lynn Hospital before retiring. Geraldine enjoyed knitting and sewing and after her retirement, she enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Golden Agers at the Peabody Counseling on Aging. Geraldine is survived by two daughters, Carol Papi and Joyce Maglione, both of Peabody, a brother-in-law, Frank Burke of Peabody, four grandchildren, Janet Schmink of Danvers, Peter F. and Robert J. Maglione, both of Peabody and Christine Ford of Peabody, five great grandchildren, Ryan Maglione of Peabody and Tyler and Mackenzie Schmink of Danvers, and Kyle and Luke Maglione of Peabody. She was the sister of the late Joyce Burke Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
