Obituary of Anibel E. Cunha

Anibel E. Cunha, 93, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at Union Hospital in Lynn. He was the devoted husband of the late Teodora (Faustino) Cunha. Born in Half Moon Bay, CA, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Joseph) Cunha. He was raised and educated in California and has lived in Peabody for the last 21 years. Anibel was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army before being honorably discharged on January 4, 1946. He was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After the war, Anibel went to work as a carpenter and was as a member of the Carpenter’s Union local 713 in California for over 70 years. Besides his carpentry duties, Anibel served as a foreman and supervisor before he retired in 1973. While living in Peabody, he was a member of the Portuguese American War Veterans Post, the Holy Ghost Society, and Our Lady of Fatima Church, all in Peabody. He also enjoyed gardening and growing his tomatoes. Anibel is survived by a sister, Aurora Furtado of Fremont, CA, a nephew, George and his wife Arlene Furtado and their children, Robert and Joyce Furtado all of Fremont, CA, and by the children of his late wife, Teodora, Mary J. Rodrigues of Peabody, Edward and his wife Odette Faustino of Oakdale, CA, and John Faustino of Freemont, NH, and also by 6 grandchildren. His funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to the Holy Ghost Society, 22 Howley St., Peabody, MA 01960.
