Obituary of John P. Liston

John P. Liston TOPSFIELD—John P. Liston, 49, died by accident on Wednesday March 17, 2010 at his office in Middleton while trying to pump flood waters out of the building. Born in Salem, he was the beloved son of James F. and Alice (Glencross) Liston of Topsfield. He grew up in Peabody and in Topsfield, attending schools in each town. He graduated from St. John’s Prep, Class of 1979. He received an undergraduate degree in three majors of Finance, Accounting, and Business from Babson College. He also received a double major MBA in Finance and International Business & Finance from the University of Southern New Hampshire. Mr. Liston had an insatiable curiosity in life and loved applying solutions, which fueled his entrepreneurial success. He enjoyed passionate discussions about business and life. While an undergraduate at Babson College, he won the “Young Entrepreneur’s Award” as well as Businessman of the Year. He owned and operated Poseidon Pools which later was renamed AAA Pools until he had a partner to whom he sold that business. He also was employed with Raetheon in Andover in the 1980’s, and later with Porter Sewing until purchasing his current company in Middleton, formerly known as Upcoa, and changed the name to US Castings in 1994. John used his gifts of focus and Yankee ingenuity to handle varied tasks whether handyman duties around the house, tinkering with his vehicles, home remodeling, cooking on the grill, or even enjoying an outdoor hearth. He was involved in several business associations, most recently with the North Shore Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by: his parents, James F. and Alice (Glencross) Liston of Topsfield; his cherished daughter and son, Katelyn A. Liston and John P. Liston, Jr. both of Danvers and their mother Michelle (Ayala) Liston of Danvers; he leaves a brother, James Liston, Jr. of Danvers; a sister and brother-in-law, Jayne & Edward Bogart of Topsfield;, and he leaves several great-aunts, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends through-out the North Shore and the country. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday March 24, 2010 at 10 AM in St. Richards Church, Danvers, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, with a Life Celebration Ceremony at 7:50 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to either the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226 or to St. Richard’s Church Parish Fund, Forest St., Danvers, MA 01923.
