Obituary of Doris J. (Knights) Balser

Doris J. (Knights) Balser, 96, died Saturday at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home, Peabody after a brief illness. She was born in Peabody on September 28, 1908, the daughter of the late Robert H. and M. Elizabeth (Brown) Knights and was the wife of the late Woodard E. Balser who died in 1963. She was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1924 and was employed at the Holyoke Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Salem until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Peabody and also served on the Boards of the Sutton Home for Woman and the Peabody Benevolent Society. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She is survived by a nephew and his wife, Robert and Priscilla Douglas of Peabody,4 grand-nieces, Jean Trueira, Leslie Grayton, and Sandra Ericson all of Peabody and Wendy Douglas of Salem. 3 grand nephews, Alan Douglas of Merrimac, Ma, Brian Douglas of Peabody and Malcolm Douglas of TX and many great grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen B. Douglas and Ruth C. Beattie and nephews, Malcolm and Bruce Douglas. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 until 11:30 at the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility. A Funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Royce Gruenler there at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Library at the No Shore Christian School, 26 Urban St., Lynn, MA 01904 in her memory.
