Obituary of Sr. Marie Carmel White, S.N.D.

Sr. Marie Carmel White S.N.D., 85, of Ipswich, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Beverly Hospital. Sister Marie was born Mary A. White, in Boston, on April 4, 1924, daughter of the late Maurice and Mary (Bowdring) White. She entered the Sisters of Notre Dame at Waltham on August 8, 1944, and professed her Perpetual Vows on August 30, 1952. Sister received her education at Emmanuel College and Boston College. Her ministries were in Waltham, Cambridge, East Boston, Woburn, South Boston, Worcester, Boston, Lawrence and Ipswich. Sister Marie is survived by her many Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, and her cousins Nancy and Jim Bowdring of Chestnut Hill. Sister Marie's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 3:00 PM at Our Lady of Queen Chapel, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Road, Ipswich to which relatives and friends may attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the Sister's of Notre Dame. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Road, Ipswich, MA 01938.
