Obituary of Arthur J. Carr

Arthur J. Carr Beverly—Arthur J. Carr, Jr., beloved husband of Bonnie (McElhinney) Carr of Beverly, died Friday evening at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Lawrence) Carr. He grew up in Peabody and attended St. John’s Grammar School, then graduated from Cranwell Prep in Western Mass, and was a graduate of Georgetown University. He served a patriotic duty with the United States Army in peacetime just after the Korean War, and played on the Baseball team. Mr. Carr worked in advertising sales in Boston at WSBK-TV38, WLVI-TV56 and was National Sales Manager at FOX-25. He retired as General Sales Manager of Sports Channel. He also served on the Board of Governers for the New England Broadcasters Association, and prior in administration with the Baltimore Orioles organization. Arthur enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Salem Country Club. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother as family was very important to him. He is survived by: his wife, Bonnie (McElhinney) Carr of Beverly, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage; a daughter, Jennifer Bicknell of Londonderry, NH and a son, Kevin Carr of Hamilton; a cherished grandson Ethan Bicknell of NH; two sisters, Laurie Herlihy of Atkinson, NH and Eleanor Hanlon of Colleyville, TX, and he leaves several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Kathy Carr, and an infant son Arthur. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Tuesday March 23, 2010 for a Graveside Funeral Ceremony at 1 P.M. at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, followed by burial.
