Obituary of Robert L. "Bob" Hess

Robert L. "Bob" Hess, 72, of Litchfield, NH, died on Thursday, April 1, 2010 with his family at his side at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. Bob finally succumbed after an exceptionally brave battle with leukemia. Bob was born on September 17, 1937, in Somerville, son of the late Agnes (Murphy) and John Hess. He spent several years in Peabody and Saugus, and most recently lived in Litchfield, NH. Bob enjoyed a fulfilling career as a U.S. government ship inspector at several east coast Navy yards including Boston, Portsmouth NH, Groton CT, Newport RI, and Norfolk VA. Bob spent the latter portion of his career working for Boston Scientific Corporation. He received numerous awards and commendations for superior performance and technical excellence. Bob was an avid reader who loved the outdoors. Other life passions included automobile refinish and repair, carpentry, airplanes, antique rifles, hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycling, golfing and storytelling. Bob is survived by his 2 daughters, Carol Ann Lavigueur of Hudson, NH and Kathleen L. Hess and her partner Kim Ferguson of Middleton; 2 grandchildren, Amanda Lavigueur and Matthew Lavigueur of Hudson, NH; his companion Ann Milenas of Litchfield, NH; his former wife and continued good friend, Carolyn Desmarais of Peabody, his siblings, Agnes Wilson of Georgetown, and Patricia Garofano of Danville, NH and John Hess of Keystone Heights, FL; and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Saturday, April 3, 2010 from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
