Julio da Costa Gomes
PEABODY—Julio da Costa Gomes, 74, beloved husband of the late Maria Goncalves Gomes, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday morning.
Born in the village of Gemieira, in Ponte de Lima, Portugal, he lived there for 34 years before moving to the North Shore. He lived in Peabody for the last 40 years.
Mr. Gomes was a self-employed carpenter. He did many kinds of projects, mostly involved with remodeling homes.
He enjoyed a quiet life at home, and was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody. He built many pieces of furniture in his home.
He is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law, Carlos & Laurie Gomes of Salem, and Fernando & Lisa Gomes of Peabody; four grandchildren, Kristopher and Marc Gomes both of Salem, and Sophia and Alex Gomes, both of Peabody; a sister-in-law, Joaquina Sa of Peabody; he enjoyed a special relationship with a niece and nephew, Connie Bettencourt and Tony Bettencourt of Peabody, and he leaves several other nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 – 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
