Obituary of Eleanor R. (Patten) Donovan

. Eleanor R. (Patten) Donovan, 91, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Thursday morning at the Rosewood Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ida (Jones) Patten. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. After high school, Eleanor attended Lynn Hospital School of Nursing and received her associates degree in nursing. Eleanor continued at Lynn Hospital as a Registered Nurse and eventually became head nurse for floor M3 until her retirement in 1994. After her initial retirement, Eleanor decided to return to work, and was Director of Nursing at the former Farnsworth Nursing Home in Peabody for an additional 15 years. Eleanor was an active member of the Lynn Hospital Alumni, Daughters of the Nile in Wakefield and the Eastern Star in Marblehead. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Charles Young III of Peabody, two grandchildren, Charles Young IV and his wife Erica of Arlington, and Dr. Elizabeth Young of South Euclid, Ohio, a great grandson, Charles Young IV and also by many beloved nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Herbert Patten, Jr., LeRoy Patten, and Vivian Witham. A private Funeral Service was held on Monday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Peabody. Donations can be made in Eleanor’s name to either Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or the Shriners Burn Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
