Obituary of Roque C. Nunes
Roque C. Nunes, 85, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Delminda (Da Silva Lima) Nunes.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Clemente) Nunes. He was raised and educated in Portugal and in 1960 he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Peabody where he has lived for the past 50 years. While living in Peabody, he worked for 8 years as a trimmer in the leather industry; the last company was the Leach and Heckel Company in Salem, before he finally retired.
He was a long time member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, the CLC Club, the Portuguese American War Veterans Post 1 and the Azorean Holy Ghost Society, all in Peabody.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Manuel and Maria E. Nunes of Peabody, his sister, Emelda Silva of Peabody and by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jose and Manuel Clemente, Joao, Francisco, and Eduino Nunes, Anna Mendonca, Eva Silva, and Maria Batista.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
