Lucy (Messina) Civello
PEABODY—Lucy (Messina) Civello, 89, beloved wife of the late Charles “Charlie the Barber” Civello, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday morning.
Born in Lawrence, she was the daughter to the late Guiseppe and Guiseppa (Russo) Messina. She lived in Lawrence growing up, and graduated from Lawrence High School. She moved to Peabody after she was married in 1941.
Mrs. Civello worked at the wool mills in the Lawrence area after graduating school, and besides enjoying her role nurturing her family she worked at First National Stores in Peabody and Danvers many years.
Devoted to her faith community, Lucy was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She also attended and supported the Carmelite Chapel at the North Shore Mall in Peabody. She enjoyed spending time at the Torigian Life Center in Peabody. One of her most cherished acts of giving was hosting the family at her home for all the occasions, including holidays and other special milestones and celebrations.
She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Henry Newhall of Peabody; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Marie Civello of Medford; two grandsons, Michael Newhall & his wife Suzanne of West Newbury and Matthew Civello of Medford; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hayley Newhall of West Newbury, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by brothers Sebastian and Alfred Messina and sisters Mary Taglieri and Sarah Merandino.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday May 4, 2010 at 10 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 – 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Memorial donations may be made to the General Scholarship Fund, St. John’s Prep, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923.
