Obituary of Robert Cecil Ball

Robert Cecil Ball, 97, husband of Lucienne (Fournier) Ball of Peabody, died on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the Peabody Glen Health Care Center. Mr. Ball was born in Woonsocket, SD, on February 27, 1913, son of the late Harry and Mary Myrtle (Kramer) Ball. He was raised and educated in Woonsocket. In 1930, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served as Chief Pharmacist’s Mate with the Medic Corps during WWII aboard the USS Apc46 and the USS Natahala in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operation. Following WWII, Robert owned and operated the R.C. Ball Barber Shop in Manchester-by-the-Sea until his retirement in 1981. In 1981 he made in residence in Salem, before moving to Peabody in 1993. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Past Commander and 50 year member of the American Legion Post 113, and an avid dancer. During his extensive 12 cross-country drives, he visited every State Capitol in the U.S. In addition to his wife of Peabody, he is survived by his nieces and nephews, Linda Bilo McCarthy and her husband Stephen McCarthy of Byfield, Paul and Gina Paquette of Rowley, Ronald and Lydia Paquette of Tulsa, OK, Terrence Linehan of Council Bluffs, IA, Elizabeth Thomas of Altamont, KS, a sister-in-law, Alice Paquette of Wenham, a brother-in-law, Walter Beaulieu of Peabody, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. His first wife Katherine E. (Bennett) Ball and his brother Vern Ball predeceased him. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12 noon at Sacred Heart Church, 62 School Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Burial will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea.
