Obituary of Florence M. (Kaminski) Skarmos

Florence M. (Kaminski) Skarmos, 86, of Cumberland, ME, formerly of Peabody and Salem, died on Tuesday, May 04, 2010 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine. Mrs. Skarmos was born in Salem, May 4, 1924, the daughter of the late Helen Kaminski. Florence was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School Class of 1941. In 1947, she made her residence in Peabody before moving to Cumberland, Maine in 2008 to be with her son Paul. Mrs. Skarmos began her working career at CBS Hytron in Salem. After raising her son Paul, Florence joined the City of Peabody Engineering Department as an office clerk where she remained for 7 years. Prior to her retirement in 1984, Florence was employed for 20 years by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a supervisor and authorizing agent for food stamp eligibility in the Department of Welfare. As hobbies, Florence enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling by car and rail and making crossword puzzles. Florence is survived by her son, Paul C. Skarmos of Cumberland, ME; a sister, Ruth T. Retos of Peabody; her nieces and nephews, Debbie and David Tetreault of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Peter and Deborah Retos of No Attleboro, Cheryl and Kevin Bourque of Reading; and her caregivers at Sedgewood Commons. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 7, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
