Julia “Toula” (Katsoulis) Anasoulis
TEWKSBURY, MA--Julia “Toula” (Katsoulis) Anasoulis, 97 of Tewksbury and formerly of Peabody died on Sunday, May l6, 20l0, peacefully in her home under the care of her loving daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Fred Simon. She was born in Filiatra, Greece in l9l2, the daughter of Costas and Eleni (Alexopoulos) Katsoulis. Upon the death of her birth mother in l9l6, she emigrated to Lynn, Massachusetts, on the final voyage of The Themistocles, out of Patras, Greece with her Aunt Olga to be reunited with her father. She was raised by her loving father and mother Aphrodite (Georgeakopoulos) Katsoulis.
She attended public school in Lynn and was a seamstress and tailor by profession. She became the beloved wife of Costas “Charlie” Anasoulis in l933, and they shared sixty-two years of marriage in Peabody when he predeceased her. She was a member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church of Peabody. She was a much adored wife, loving mother, mother-in-law, yiayia (grandmother), great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, and mentor who will be greatly missed but never forgotten. May her memory be eternal.
She is survived by her children Sophie Brown and her husband Paul of Manchester-by-the Sea; Barry Anasoulis and his wife Helen of Summerfield, FL; and Elaine Simon and her husband Fred of Tewksbury; her brother Nicholas Katsoulis and his wife Irene of Haverhill; her sister Helen Meyer and her husband Paul of Inverness, FL; and her sister Artemis “Dianne” Panacopoulos and her companion, Harry Leonard of Salisbury and of Naples, FL. She was predeceased by her sister Katherine Cara and her husband Charles of Lynn.
She is survived by nine grandchildren Mildred (Simon) Dufault and her husband Mark of Litchfield, N.H.; Kim Anasoulis of San Bruno, CA; Elizabeth (Brown) Swanson and her husband Donald of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Dean Brown of Manchester-by-the Sea; Julie Simon of Dracut; Christopher Anasoulis and his wife Melanie of Wrentham; Pamela (Brown) Crehan and her husband David of Manchester-by-the-Sea; Jennifer (Brown) Erdogan and her husband Mehmet Ali of Marmaris,Turkey; and ( No. 9) Maria Simon of Beverly. She was predeceased by her grandchild Charles Anasoulis.
She is also survived by l5 great-grandchildren Justin, Alexa, and Austin Dufault; Hunter, Benjamin, and Alexander Swanson; Samantha, Paul, Molly, and John Crehan; Christopher John “C.J.”, and Casey Anasoulis; Lauren Simon; and Talya and Ali Erdogan.
She is lovingly remembered by her six godchildren Dorothy Zetes and her daughters Donna Minghelli and Maria Moore; Pamela Scangas; Lisa Anderson; and the Rev. Peter Kakos with whom she maintained great relationships.
She was the matriarch of a very close knit family. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and traveling to Hawaii, California, Florida, Turkey and her native country of Greece. She was an avid book reader. She loved the visits and companionship of her friends and family and we will all miss her cheery disposition, friendship, and unconditional love.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends may gather on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Paleologos St., Peabody.
