Obituary of Arthur H. Davis
Arthur H. Davis, 86, of Peabody, husband of the late Eileen (O’Toole) Davis, died on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Brooksby Village Renaissance Gardens in Peabody with his family at his side.
Mr. Davis was born in Boston, on March 18, 1924, son of the late Franklin and Nora (Quinn) Davis. He was raised in Roslindale graduating from Roslindale High School. In 1942, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served in the European – African Middle Eastern Theater of Operation as a Pharmacist Mate Second Class until 1946. He remained in the U.S. Navy and also served during the Korean conflict prior to receiving his honorable discharge. He pursued his education and received his Bachelor Degree in Engineering from the University of Lowell. He resided in Revere before moving to Peabody 18 years ago.
Mr. Davis was employed for 21 years as a Civil Engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts traffic engineering department until his retirement in 1988. He dedicated his entire life to his family and later was so proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments, and most recently of his 3 great grandchildren whom he cherished. He enjoyed family gatherings and dinners, golfing, Cape Cod, walking the mall, reading and was also an avid sports fan.
Mr. Davis is survived by his children and their spouses, Arthur D. Davis of Peabody, Kathleen M. “Kathie” and Wayne Melville, Patricia D. “Patti” and Donald Schaffer all of Salem, and Peter J. and Leigh Davis of Lakewood, WA; his siblings, Donald Davis of Ocean Springs, MS, and Jeannie Siemasco and her husband Edward of Sandwich; his grandchildren, Arthur Davis of Bennington, VT, Alison Davis of Baltimore, MD, Meghan and Clay Foster of Burlington, VT, Michael Melville of Springfield, Dawn and Geoff Regan of Peabody, Zachary and Nicholas Davis of Lakewood, WA; 3 great grandchildren, Emmett and Skylar Foster of VT and Molly Regan of Peabody; 2 cousins, Edward “Buddy” and June Croke of Milton; a former daughter-in-law, Gail Davis of Burlington, VT; and his many nieces, nephews and friends. His brother Franklin Davis predeceased him.
His funeral will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
