Obituary of Mary E. (Desrosiers) McCarthy
Mary E. (Desrosiers) McCarthy 80 years, wife of the late John R. Buck McCarthy with whom she had shared 54 years of marriage, died Thursday after a brief illness.
Mrs. McCarthy was born May 24, 1925 in New York daughter of the late Henry and Harriet (Hicks) Desrosiers. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1944. Following her marriage she resided in Lynn for 32 years before returning to Peabody.
Mrs. McCarthy devoted her entire life to her children and grandchildren. She along with her husband wintered in Orlando Florida. She was a member of the AOH Ladies Auxiliary Division 18 in Salem, loved music and dancing.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Cheryl A. Bernard and her husband Mark Bernard of Salem, Karen H. Griffin and her companion M. Edward Wright IV of Danvers; 3 sons, Daniel M. McCarthy and his wife Jean McCarthy of Byfield, John P. McCarthy and his companion Cheryl Swatzell of Peabody and Stephen R. McCarthy of Hamilton; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Meghan and Kristen Griffin all of Beverly, Daniel and Michael McCarthy both of Byfield, Shane and Erin McCarthy both of Salem; a brother, Franklin Warren of WA; a son-in-law, Terrence Terry Griffin of Beverly; 2 cousins who were also dearest friends, Marion Stepenuck and Theresa McCarthy both of Salem; her in-laws, Howard McCarthy of NH and Mary Calder of Peabody, several nieces and nephews and her many friends at the Penelope Apartments in Peabody. Pre deceased by a sister Agnes Greenleaf.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
