Obituary of Edward C. Landers

Edward C. Landers, 81, of Haverhill and formerly of West Peabody, died Tuesday evening at the Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Home in Haverhill after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Concetta “Connie” (Santagate) Landers who died nine years ago. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 24, 1928, the son of the late Benjamin and Frances (Swiston) Lewandowski and was raised in New Jersey. He entered the US Navy in 1943 serving overseas in Italy during WW 11. Following his discharge, he moved to Massachusetts and had been a storekeeper at his wife’s family Santagate Supermarket in Chelsea for 15 years. He later worked as a truck driver at the Chelsea Fruit and Vegetable exchange for 18 years prior to his retirement. Edward was a sixty year member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 83 of Chelsea and had served on the board of directors, and had been active in the Bingo Committee, the Couples Club and was also a member of the K of C bowling league for many years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Los Vegas and loved to putter around his yard and keep it in trim condition. He had been a coin collector and also a baseball card collector and had been an avid Red Sox fan. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lissa and Bob Jensen of Haverhill, a son, Edward C. Landers II, of Texas, his three grandchildren, Guy Richard Landers of Haverhill, Edward C. Landers III of Texas and Renee De Simone of Lynnfield, g great granddaughter, Raya De Simone, a daughter-in-law, Constance Landers of Haverhill and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Richard C. Landers and Guy Steven Landers and the brother of the late Frances Golchuk. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway,Cahill-Brodeur Funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Michael J.
