Obituary of Dr. Arnold Herbert Janzen
Dr. Arnold H. Janzen
Dr. Arnold Herbert Janzen, 95, passed away on Thursday, September 2, in Salem MA, after a brief illness. He was known for his love of his family, his compassion toward others, and his work as a radiologist. He touched many people in a special way. Arnold enriched his life through outdoor activities, classical music, travel, and an unquenchable thirst for reading. Born to missionary parents in Ootacamund, India, his family moved Minnesota when he was 12 and later to Kansas. After graduating from the University of Kansas Medical School, he served as a medical officer in the CCC and in Algeria during World War II. Dr. Janzen worked as a radiologist at Yale-New Haven where he was chief radiologist, and associate professor of radiology at Yale. Later, he chaired the radiology department at Hartford Hospital. In 1957, he married his beloved Ann [Schwarz] and settled in Avon, CT to raise their children. He eventually moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where he enjoyed golf and volunteering at the town's library. In 2009, he and Ann moved to Peabody, MA, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Ann; children Peter [and Betsy Janzen], Donna Petrie (and Randy Petrie), and Daniel (and Elizabeth Janzen); and grandchildren Lucas, Tyler, Elizabeth, Kimberly, Nicholas, Joseph, Seth, Daniel, Matthew, and Samuel. His dimpled smile will be missed by all.
Per his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190; American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123; or to a charity of your choice.
