Obituary of Carol Mae (Atkinson) Smith

Carol M. (Atkinson) Smith PEABODY--Carol (Atkinson) Smith, 73, beloved wife of the late Richard Smith, died peacefully on Monday morning September 13, 2010 at her home. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Daisy (LeFave) Atkinson. She was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1955, and a lifelong Peabody resident, except for the last year as she lived in Marlborough. Mrs. Smith worked in the Dietary Department at the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody for many years, and retired in 1996. Carol enjoyed going on cruises with her husband, travelling, camping with her family, going to Mouson Lake in Maine, and simply spending time with family and friends. She is survived by: four sons and their spouses, Thomas & Jane Smith and William & Margie Smith, both of Peabody, Richard & Kelly Smith of Winter Haven, FL, and David Smith & Fred Abate of Marlborough; three grandchildren, Robert Smith of VA, Erin Smith of Peabody, and Kristie Tapley of FL; a brother, Bob & Jean Atkinson of Clifton Park, NY; two sisters, Shirley & Ted Kobialka of Salem and Marilyn Bryant of Bradford, PA, and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by brother William Atkinson and sister Daisy McIntyre. A visitation will be held on Saturday Sept. 18, 2010 from 8:30 – 10:30 A.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Cremation will follow later. The family’s preferred request for expressions of sympathy is to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
