Obituary of Robert E. Canney

Robert E. Canney 75 years died Tuesday July 12, 2005 at the Kindred Boston North Hospital in Peabody after a brief illness. Mr. Canney was born November 20, 1929 in Boston son of the late Eugene and Martha (Browne) Canney. He was raised and educated in Dorchester. He enlisted in the United States Army on April 16, 1951 and while serving 2 tours in Korea he was attached to the 48th MASH APO 301 Unit. Following his tours of duty he remained in the United States Army Medical Corps Unit attaining the rank of SP5. He was honorably discharge on August 19, 1960. He moved to Peabody in 1968. Mr. Canney was employed for many years as a Central Supply Technician at J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody until it’ s closing in 1992. Bob enjoyed the simple things in life especially family gatherings and celebrations, always very thoughtful in remembering his sisters, brother, nieces and nephews’ birthdays and anniversaries by calling and sending a card for the occasion. He loved to walk & read before the loss of sight in one eye. Mr. Canney is survived by a brother and his wife, John and Carole Canney of Sebastian FL; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Kathleen and Romero Arredondo of Lynnwood WA, Martha and Lawrence Larry Cantwell of Estero FL and Margaret Pierce of West Dennis; many nieces and nephews. Pre deceased by his siblings, Eugene, Francis, Joseph and Mary Canney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Family and friends may pay their respects Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location Peabody. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Lung Assoc., One Abbey Lane, Middleboro MA 02346.
