Obituary of Elena "Ellie" (Garofalo) Maloney

Elena “Ellie” (Garofalo) Maloney, 88, of West Peabody, died Thursday at the New England Baptist Hospital, Boston with her family at her side after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of 62 years to James L. Maloney. She was born in East Boston on May 11, 1922 the daughter of the late Pasquale and Ermelinda (Barbato) Garofalo and was raised there and was a graduate of East Boston Girls High School. She later resided in Medford before moving to West Peabody 50 years ago. Elena was employed with the Charlestown Navy Yard during WW 11 and later worked at Mac Millan Publishing Company, Boston . After raising her children, she had worked at Target Marketing in Peabody and also at Costco Company at Danvers and at the Hannaford Supermarket in West Peabody. She enjoyed listening to Music, making her favorite recipes for her family and going dancing with her husband. She had been a member of the Peabody Senior Citizens and enjoyed traveling to Italy, Alaska and Hawaii. She was the loving mother of Richard Maloney and his wife Cynthia of Natick, Gloria and her husband John Hartigan of Londonderry, NH and Melinda and her husband Robert De Bonis of Lynnfield, her five cherished grandchildren, Justin and Eva Maloney, Christa and Cara Hartigan and Robbie De Bonis, the devoted sister of Luigi Garofalo of Stoneham and Michael Garofalo and Gloria Deveaux both of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 and 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’s Church, Lowell St., West Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
